Côte France French Café: The Quiche That Made Me Forget About the Crookie

June 2026 — Downtown Tampa

There’s a French café in downtown Tampa called Côte France that I’d been meaning to get back to ever since I ducked in for a coffee a while back. Sunday morning finally felt like the right time — unhurried, no crowd, the kind of morning a good quiche deserves.

I was right about the timing. Walked straight up to the counter without waiting.

The Specialty

Their signature is the quiche Lorraine — buttery, flaky crust, creamy custard filling, smoky bacon, melted Gruyère. When a place tells you this is what they’re known for, you order it. That’s the rule.

It came with a side salad: mixed greens, tomatoes, pickled onions, seeds, and a house-made French vinaigrette. The salad punched well above its weight — the pickled onions and vinaigrette gave it a brightness that cut through the richness of the quiche nicely.

The quiche itself was melt-in-your-mouth. The crust had exactly the right texture — firm enough to hold everything together, but not dried out or tough. That balance is harder to nail than it sounds, and they nailed it. The custard was silky, the bacon smoky, the Gruyère present without being overwhelming. This is the kind of dish that makes you glad you came.

The Drink

It was a warm Tampa summer morning, so I skipped the coffee and went for one of their crafted berry fizzes — a yellow drink made with mango seltzer and coconut water. Light, barely sweet, refreshing without being cloying. It was exactly what I was looking for alongside a richer dish, and the pairing worked beautifully.

The Pastry Case (For Next Time)

I was tempted. I am always tempted.

Their pastry selection is extensive — this is a French bakery, so croissants are a given, but they go well beyond the basics. The item that stopped me in my tracks was the crookie: a croissant with cookie dough baked inside. That needs to happen. There were also almond croissants — which I have a genuine weakness for and somehow resisted — and, most excitingly, house-made macarons. A French café making their own macarons in Tampa is not something to overlook, and I fully intend to work my way through them on a future visit.

The Menu

The Verdict

Quick service, casual atmosphere, easy street parking, and I was in and out in under thirty minutes. For a Sunday morning in downtown Tampa, that’s a pretty ideal setup. The quiche alone is worth the trip, and I’ve barely scratched the surface of what they’re doing here.

The crookie is already on my list for next time. And the macarons. And probably the almond croissant, if I’m being honest with myself.
