Myrtle Beach, South Carolina
If you read my review of Crepe Creation Cafe, you already know breakfast in Myrtle Beach is a challenge from where I sit. That review was my kind of breakfast. This one is not — and anyone who knows my usual standards will wonder what in the hell I was doing at Mammy’s Kitchen.
Fair question. Here’s the answer.

Why I Was There
I found Mammy’s Kitchen years ago while bringing kids to Myrtle Beach for sports tournaments, and it turns out to be a fantastic place to feed a large volume of hungry kids. Back when we were regulars, it ran about eight or nine dollars a person. It’s a buffet — not my preferred format — but between the volume of people moving through and the kitchen keeping pace, the food stays fresh. I’ll never call it A-plus. But it’s good enough to eat without forcing it down, which is more than I can say for some of the other breakfast options in town.
The Line
If you pull up and see the line wrapped around the side of the building, don’t panic. They move people through fast. I’ve been thirty deep in that line and still been seated within about ten minutes. Don’t let the line talk you out of it.

The Buffet
Asking what’s on the menu is almost the wrong question — it’s easier to list what isn’t. Sausage links, sausage patties, bacon, ham, every meat you’d want. Scrambled eggs and boiled eggs on the buffet; fried eggs available if you order from the waitress. Pancakes, French toast, doughnuts, fruit, biscuits and gravy, hash browns, corned beef hash, waffles. It’s a full survey of American breakfast food, and it’s cheap.
Average quality across the board, but consistently edible even by my standards — and the service, what there is of it beyond the self-serve buffet, is genuinely good.
The Verdict
I’ll admit I’ve never gone to Mammy’s Kitchen with just adults — every visit has involved a table of kids. But the adults who came along agreed it wasn’t bad at all. If you’re craving breakfast on Kings Highway and you’re not chasing a fine-dining brunch experience, Mammy’s Kitchen gets the job done, and it does it fast.
